If you're thinking about buying an instrument, check out this article from Strings Magazine - it's more complicated than you might think! The article focuses on violins, but most of the information can be applied to violas and cellos, too.

Online Metronome
there are many others out there, but I liked this one. Set your tempo and try to stay with the beat! Plus this one can be downloaded to your cell phone, so you can always have a metronome handy and still look cool...

The Rhythm Trainer
The Rhythm Trainer is a free on-line game that will help you improve your understanding of rhythms. Be sure to try out both "Modes," and after you get the hang of the game, challenge yourself by throwing in some of those sixteenth notes! If you e-mail your results to me, I'll consider adding a few extra credit points to your daily grade.

Music Racer
Need help learning your note names? Here's another free on-line game for you! Music Racer has three types of games (one is for music terms, one is naming notes on the staff, and the third shows you a spot on the fingerboard and you have to name the note - this one's a little tricky!) They even have a viola setting, so I think it's pretty cool, anyway.
