What is Open Enrollment?
Open enrollment, also known as School Choice, is Wisconsin's public school program which allows parents to apply for their children to attend school in a school district other than the one in which they live. If parents already have a child attending a school district through open enrollment, they must apply for each additional child in their family as they become eligible.
Who May Participate?
Students in 5-Year Old Kindergarten through Grade 12 and who are Wisconsin residents.
Students in 4-year old kindergarten and Early Childhood may participate provided their resident district has a similar program and the child qualifies to participate in that program.
How and When May Parents Apply?
The recommended method of applying for open enrollment is through the on-line application process on the Department of Public Instruction's website https://dpi.wi.gov/oe during the open enrollment application period (February - April). Parents may complete a paper application and submit it to the district they wish for their child to attend (non-resident school district) during the application period. The application period for the 2020-21 school year opens on February 3, 2020. Please contact Michelle Falkinham if you wish to apply for Open Enrollment for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
