Hello, hello!
My name is Mrs. Riter and I am currently teaching grades 6-8 Art at BDMS. While this is only my second year at the middle school I have been a part of the Beaver Dam Unified School District for 8 years. For six years I was an Elementary Art teacher atPrairie View, South Beaver Dam, Trenton, Wilson, Washington and Lincoln Elementary.
When I am not at school with your child/children I am home, in Fond du Lac, with my husband and children. My husband and I, married for 20 years, have 3 teenage boys, a very large dogs and a stubborn cat. Needless to say - there is never a dull moment in my home. During my free time I enjoy being outdoors, reading while buried under a cozy blanket, working on my childrens scrapbooks or making art.
My philosophy is the belief that your child/children come to school with a wealth of knowledge; ready to communicate by any means necessary. The easiest, way to communicate their world and understanding of it is to draw. My job (and yours too) is to nourish this form of communication; help them to make sense of their world. We don’t think about something with words, we think visually and expressing those thoughts is sometimes easier done with images than words. So then, art class is not about creating ‘artists’, but rather it is about strengthening children’s language, assisting in the necessity to visually express phenomena and nurturing the overall growth of an individual.
