In 2018, the district contracted with Zimmerman Architectural Studios to complete a facility assessment to assist with the development of a long-range facility plan to address identified capital maintenance needs. A draft of a 5-year Facility Plan was created, which includes a review of the facility study, space utilization and capacity analysis, previous facility and/or space studies, parent and staff survey results, budget realities, financial options, and recommendations.
The Board of Education reviewed and discussed the draft of the 5-Year Facility Plan at a workshop on May 20, 2019, and charged the administration with the task of providing an additional draft plan that includes closing both single-section elementary schools. The Board of Education discussed the additional draft of the 5-Year Facility Plan at a workshop on June 10, 2019. The Board of Education elected to hold another workshop on June 24, 2019, to allow for additional open discussion on an updated draft of the prospective 5-Year Facility Plan. The updated plan included additional context regarding academic and student service related impact and opportunities associated with multi-section elementary schools. The Board of Education approved the final draft of the 5-Year Facility Plan at their regular monthly business board meeting on July 15.
