What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a school wide commitment to teaching students appropriate behavior, acknowledging them when they get it right, and supporting them when they don’t.
The PBIS process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. Common routines and uniform language with respect to appropriate school behaviors are consistent throughout. As a result, instructional time is more effectively used for teaching and the overall school environment is calm, pleasant, and conducive to learning.
At Prairie View Elementary, our school wide expectations lay the foundation for student success in all school settings.

What does PBIS look like at Prairie View?
Our Mission: Prairie View Panthers, in cooperation with home and community, believe in creating a safe, respectful, and responsible learning environment for all staff and students. Through modeling and explicit teaching of behaviors using best practices, we will achieve academic and behavioral excellence in order to persevere in all life's endeavors.
Prairie Prides: Prairie Prides are our "high frequency" acknowledgements. Students earn Prairie Prides for being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe throughout their day. Every Friday, we pull Prairie Prides and announce the children's names. If you’ve been in our main office, you may have noticed a new billboard that is dedicated to the collections of our Prairie Prides.
VIP (Very Important Panther): Each month, our teachers select one student from their classrooms to be a VIP. These students have exemplified what it looks like, feels like, and sounds like to follow The Panther Way. VIP's receive a certificate of acknowledgement, have their pictures placed on the wall outside their classrooms, and are featured each month in our Pawsitively PBIS Newsletters.
Brag Tags: Our Brag Tags have been a huge hit this year and were featured in our local newspaper! Students at Prairie View will earn Brag Tags and beads throughout the school year for being respectful, responsible, and safe. Each Friday and at special events, students proudly wear their Brag Tag necklaces, showcasing their hard work and Panther Pride!
Our Paws Statue: At Prairie View, we believe in celebrating and acknowledging our staff just as we do our students. We have a statue of our school mascot, Paws, that travels throughout our building, spending time in the classrooms of teachers that have been nominated by their peers. Look for pictures of our staff with Paws in our monthly newsletter.
Cool Tools: Every Monday, teachers use their morning meeting time to review behavior Cool Tools or mini-lessons with our students. These Cool Tools are data-driven, with our morning routine in place to model, remind, and re-teach what it looks like, feels like, and sounds like to follow The Panther Way at Prairie View.
The Panther Way Wall: Displayed in our multipurpose room, our Panther Way wall is dedicated to showcasing our Prairie View staff and students being respectful, responsible, and safe.
