Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a system for teaching and supporting positive behaviors and meeting the needs of ALL students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.

The foundation of PBIS at the Beaver Dam Middle School is the four building-wide expectations:

  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Good Citizens

In addition to our behavior expectations, PBIS is also based on:

  1. A behavior matrix which explains specific behavior expectations in each school setting
  2. Direct teaching, modeling and practicing of the expectations
  3. PBIS Golden Tickets which acknowledge students for following expectations

How Can Parents Help?

PBIS works best when there is a partnership between home and school. Throughout the school year, the PBIS team will provide updates and information about PBIS. We invite your comments, questions and ideas to make PBIS work at our school.

Please support PBIS at BDMS by:

  • Reviewing behavior expectations with your child.
  • Using the four building-wide expectations at home.
  • Providing positive reinforcement (acknowledging good choices with compliments) at home.
  • Sharing comments with or asking questions of the BDMS staff.
