What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a system for teaching and supporting positive behaviors and meeting the needs of ALL students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.
The foundation of PBIS at Jefferson School is three building-wide expectations:
- Be Safe
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
In addition to our behavior expectations, PBIS is also based on:
1. A building behavior matrix. which explains specific behavior expectations in each common area.
2. Classroom behavior matrices, which explain specific behavior expectations within each class.
3. Direct teaching, modeling and practicing of the expectations.
4. PBIS Star Student Tickets, which acknowledge students for meeting and/or exceeding expectations.
