Response to Intervention (RtI)
The Beaver Dam Unified School District believes in providing the highest quality of education for our students. This letter is to provide you with information about the three-tiered instructional approach we are using to meet this goal, referred to as Response to Intervention (RtI) which is part of federal educational law.
Within this model of tiered supports students participate in the core curriculum, with three levels (tiers) of interventions for students who demonstrate at-risk skills in general academics. Each tier provides additional instruction beyond the core curriculum. Students in K - 8 are screened in the academic areas of reading and math three times a year to measure their progress toward grade level standards.
Tier 1 – Teachers will use different strategies within the core curriculum to address all student educational needs.
Tier 2 – Based on progress data, students who need more intensive instruction following Tier 1 are provided supplemental research-based interventions matched to their needs. The Building RtI team, classroom teacher, and interventionist will track the student’s progress and parents will receive ongoing progress data.
Tier 3 – Students who continue to require additional instruction in Tier 2 will receive more intensive interventions at this level. Parents will receive ongoing progress data. After Tier 3 implementation, students who continue to display limited progress may then be considered for further evaluation and services.
Our district is excited to take part in this process to improve educational outcomes for all students. As always, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me if you have questions or concerns.
